After King Flint sends you to investigate the Dragon problem, you end up having to face the Dragon’s first minion: the Dark Guardian.

Male in appearance, she is actually quite the cosplayer. You don’t get much of a chance to find out why before you lock in deadly combat. Upon your victory, you find among her possessions a letter. Deciding to take it to King Flint, he discovers that these minions are all part of the Brotherhood of the Dragon… and everything becomes clear.

Evidently, this is a male-only thing, and the Dark Guardian was only trying to fit it… Still, she was unspeakably evil, so no time for mourning, you have a world to save! Next up, find Priest Klishnu and ask for his aid!
